A few years back, Judy McGovern sold her Ephrata townhome and moved to a brand-new apartment complex in a nearby community. But something was missing: a social life.

So, a little over a year ago, she found herself searching again — not only for a place where she could socialize but also where she could age in place independently as she deals with the effects of an inflammatory muscle disease.

She found all that and more at Landis Place on King, a 55-plus apartment community at 239 W. King St. developed by Landis Quality Living, a division of Landis Communities.

“It was exactly what I wanted,” McGovern says. “I wanted to be part of a community.”

Designed as a celebration of urban living, Landis Place on King features 79 pet-friendly one- and two-bedroom apartments in a variety of sizes and floor plans to suit a variety of budgets. Apartments have balconies or patios offering beautiful cityscape views.

But just as appealing for McGovern are the things that aren’t so tangible.

Since opening its doors last May, Landis Place on King has welcomed nearly 110 residents from as far away as Florida and Maine and as close as a few blocks away, says Lauren Kushner, director of Landis Quality Living Communities.

Many of these residents have created a vibrant social life within the walls of Landis Place on King, full of diverse activities, much of it thanks to an active resident council and a social committee formed earlier this year. McGovern is a member of the council and serves as a liaison to the social committee.
