Life on Foot near Landis Place on King

One of the best ways to understand a place is to experience it at walking speed! For Debbie Logan, a resident of Landis Place on King, walking isn’t just a way to get around—it’s a way of life, a source of joy, and a daily reminder of why living downtown Lancaster feels like home.

Debbie moved into Landis Place on King in September 2023, choosing to celebrate her 67th birthday with a fresh chapter in the heart of the city. Having lived previously on the northeast side of Lancaster and with her many career years as a paramedic, she was already deeply familiar with the city’s streets, neighborhoods, and people. What she found living at LPK, though, was something special.

“I love walking here,” Debbie shared about the neighborhood. “It’s such a friendly atmosphere.” Whether she’s heading out for a short errand or a longer trek, walking connects her to both nature and community. On Sundays, when weather permits, she walks to church. On other days, she sets out on a favorite three-mile loop through the city—past F&M College, along tree-lined streets, and through Buchanan Park, where she’s spotted everything from cardinals and woodpeckers to hawks, and even eagles!

Living at Landis Place on King makes the walking lifestyle easy. Central Market excursions and grocery runs are easily handled with a backpack and a short walk. Debbie even walks to medical appointments downtown. Even longer outings like a six-mile round trip that includes a hike through County Park start right from her front door!

Beyond convenience, Debbie emphasizes something even more meaningful: connection. Walking downtown means greeting neighbors, exchanging smiles, and being known. One day, a local shop owner greeted her with a simple “Hi, neighbor!” Debbie shares that this a moment instantly reminded her of the close-knit feel she loved in her old neighborhood.

For Debbie, walkability isn’t just about sidewalks and destinations. It’s about freedom, health, familiarity, and belonging. At Landis Place on King, stepping outside means stepping into a welcoming city—one where daily life unfolds one friendly hello, one scenic route, and one meaningful connection at a time.
